Since 2006, ABC Reads has been bringing American Baptists together through the power of a book. Sponsored by Judson Press, ABC Reads highlights a book annually that's appropriate for reading and discussion in small group settings, as well as individually. The book provides an opportunity for learning, sharing and growing in knowledge and faith in Sunday school classes and Bible studies, as well as men's, women's and youth groups.
ABC Reads 2012-2013
February 2012 marked the beginning of a year-long bicentennial celebration of Ann and Adoniram Judson’s historic undertaking of the first overseas mission. To encourage American Baptists to learn this incredible story of unwavering faith, Judson Press has named Rosalie Hall Hunt's Bless God and Take Courage: The Judson History and Legacy as our 2012-2013 ABC Reads selection.
In Bless God and Take Courage, Hunt has provided a well-researched, thorough, and scholarly account of Adoniram, the three women—Ann, Sarah, and Emily—who served as his partners in life and mission, the Judson descendants, and the lasting impact of the Judson ministry. An engaging and in-depth tale of the people whose vocation led to the birth of American missions, Bless God and Take Courage documents the life and legacy of the Judsons with never-before-published discoveries and details.
“. . .all Christians with a sense of call to missions should read this book. I was inspired again to read of these Christian heroes [who left] home and family to tell all the world that God is light!” —Denton Lotz, former General Secretary, Baptist World Alliance
"Bless God and Take Courage is no typical biography. This invigorating read takes the reader into the depths of despair and heartbreak
and to the pinnacle of faith and hope as it invites the reader to join the story of Adoniram Judson, America's first foreign missionary."—Kristopher Norris, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship
"Well-researched, thorough, scholarly, engaging and in-depth for the serious student, Hunt’s volume also appeals to the lay reader with pictures at the start of each chapter, a chronology of events and a family tree.” —Jackie Riley, Baptists Today
