Author: MARY MILD

Mary L. Mild joined National Ministries' (now the American Baptist Home Mission Societies) staff in 1985 as director of Women and the Church (WATCH). In this capacity, she developed resources on women's issues such as domestic violence, feminization of poverty, changing roles of women in the church and women's spiritual growth. She served as editor of WATCHword, a newsletter of American Baptists concerned about women's issues related to the church. In addition, Mild edited Songs of Miriam: A Women's Book of Devotions (Judson Press), co-edited Worthy of the Gospel: Women as Partners in Mission and Women at the Well (Judson Press).

In 1996, Mild became the director of American Baptist Personnel Services. Helping ministers and congregations find each other was how Mary described her role as director of ABPS. In this role she also edited and revised resources related to ministerial placement, including Calling An American Baptist Minister: A Guide for Search Committees.

Mild retired from National Ministries in 2005. Since then she has volunteered with the American Red Cross disaster relief and remains active in her local congregation as chair of the Board of Deacons. She also teaches English as a Second Language to Karen (Burmese) refugees in her church.

In her spare time, Mary enjoys quilting and reading. She is married to William H. Mild III, a retired NJ Deputy Attorney General. She has five adorable grandchildren, Billy, Joseph, David, Joshua and Paul, all of whom bring her great joy.
