Written for both those who struggle with anger in their own lives and for caregivers who want to learn more about how to help angry people, Leroy Howe explores how unhealthy views of anger within the church have contributed to unhealthy ways of dealing with angerthe kind of anger that tears apart families, friendships, and people in the pews.
Integrating biblical theology and tried-and-tested principles of counseling in exploring the dynamics of anger, Howe makes effective use of vignettes or case studies to provide realistic examples of how people deal with anger in their lives. Angry People in the Pews can be read for personal growth, it can serve as the basis for short courses on anger management, and it can be used in conjunction with training people for the ministry of lay pastoral care in Christian congregations.
Leroy Howe is a former professor of pastoral theology with over forty years in ministry in the United Methodist Church. He has served as a pastor, university chaplain, counselor, and college and seminary professor. In addition to his books and articles, Howe also publishes twice-monthly columns on faith, theology, and everyday living. His eighth book, Explorations in Faith and Belief, is posted for the taking on its own blogsite.
Howe and his wife and best friend, Nancy, have two daughters, Jennifer and Allison, and two grandchildren, Reiss and McKenna. Visit his blog at www.howeabout.com.
