Reviews
“In God’s Invitation to Peace and Justice, we encounter commitment to the full message of Scripture—not just the parts that some segments of the church find comfortable. As a close colleague of Ronald Sider’s for 15 years, I can testify not only to his passion for and knowledge of the matters in this book, but also to the fact that he lives by it. His compassionate, conciliatory, and prophetic voice is so desperately needed at this time.”—-Craig S. Keener, F. M. and Ada Thompson Professor of Biblical Studies, Asbury Theological Seminary
“This prophetic and timely collection of essays, lectures, and sermons highlights Dr. Sider’s pleas for American Christians to passionately commit to a biblically grounded focus on social justice, balanced with intentional evangelism and spirituality. Combining solid biblical teaching with challenges for public policy and activism for the poor and oppressed, these thoughtful, engaging reflections provide foundational insights for contemporary Christians..” —The Rev. Dr. Roberta Hestenes, Former President of Eastern University and theology faculty member of Fuller Seminary.
“Ron Sider’s book is a treasure trove for preachers, teachers, social activists, and all who seek to follow Jesus faithfully and radically. These essays and sermons will inspire us to commit uncompromisingly to peace and justice—not simply because we’re good humanitarians, but because we follow Jesus Christ. This has been Ron’s message for the last five decades: ‘Do justice, make peace, and tell the salvation story to any, and all because Jesus is Lord!’” — Al Tizon, executive minister of Serve Globally, Evangelical Covenant Church
“For decades now, Ron Sider has been on the forefront of bearing prophetic witness to God’s kingdom of shalom for all people and places. What a gift to have this rich collection of his writings and speeches, which are just as relevant and insightful today as when they were first delivered.” - Rev. Ben Lowe, author and co-chair, Christians for Social Action
“In God's Invitation to Peace and Justice, Ron Sider discerningly leads us into his life's work and writings. If you're unfamiliar with his work—his fundamental concerns—here is the place to begin reading. If you know his writings and life well, you'll find his synopses to be a helpful map for what concerns him most as he enters his ninth decade. He's grown, and you'll grow too as you ponder what he feels is most important to understanding him and the meaning of his life. When I finished reading the book, I smiled, sighed, and thanked God for a life lived so well.” — Chris Hall, President of Renovaré
