Description
Lesson 1
The Lord Reigns Over All
Scripture: Psalm 97:1-12; Psalm 103:19-22
Key Theme—God's sovereignty means that the Lord reigns supreme over all creation, all nations, and all circumstances. When we truly grasp that God sits enthroned above every power and principality, we find both comfort in our troubles and confidence in our calling. The sovereign God invites us not to passive acceptance but to active participation in God’s kingdom purposes.
Lesson 2
The Compassionate King
Scripture: Psalm 103:1-14; Isaiah 40:21-31
Key Theme—God's sovereignty is not cold or distant but is exercised with tender compassion. The same God who established God’s throne in heaven and rules over all creation is the One who forgives our iniquities, heals our diseases, and shows fatherly compassion to those who fear God. While human strength inevitably fails, God's power is inexhaustible, and delights in sharing God’s strength with those who wait upon God.
Lesson 3
The Faithful Promiser
Scripture: Romans 8:28-39
Key Theme—God's sovereignty guarantees that God’s promises will be fulfilled. Because the Lord who makes the promises also controls all circumstances, we can have absolute confidence that what God has spoken will come to pass. God’s purposes cannot be thwarted, God’s love cannot be overcome, and nothing in all creation can separate us from God’s faithful care.
Lesson 4
The Sovereign Guide
Scripture: Hebrews 1:1-9; 3:1-6; 4:14-16
Key Theme—The sovereign God does not leave us to navigate life alone. In Jesus Christ, God has provided the ultimate guide: the exact imprint of God’s nature, the radiance of God’s glory, the one in whom all the fullness of deity dwells. Jesus combines divine authority with human experience. Because he was tested in every way as we are, he can sympathize with our weaknesses. Because he reigns from the throne of grace, he has the power to help us in our time of need.
Lesson 5
Embracing Trials Through Faith
Scripture: Hebrews 12:1-13
Key Theme—God's sovereignty extends over our trials and sufferings. The Lord who rules over all things uses discipline and hardship to shape God’s children into mature disciples. When we fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, we find the strength to persevere through every difficulty, trusting that our sovereign God is working all things for our good and God’s glory.
Lesson 6
Making All Things New
Scripture: Revelation 21:1-8, 22-27; 22:1-7, 12-21
Key Theme—God's sovereignty reaches its ultimate expression in the promise of cosmic renewal. The One who sits on the throne declares, "See, I am making all things new." This is not merely a future hope but a present reality that transforms how we live today. The sovereign Lord who created all things will restore all things, wiping away every tear and abolishing death itself. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end of all things.
